VHS Format Conversion

All countries broadcast TV using certain standards that have evolved since the early 1950’s when engineers were confronting the issues of TV design. Early TV receivers used field timing reference signals to indicate when to receive the next picture in a stream and these were effected by the mains power supply. To reduce rolling bars, flicker and interference, designers used the mains power supply frequency as the set power source frequency.

Most countries of the world use either 50 Hz power (25 frames per second) or 60 Hz power (30 frames per second). Though this was the underlying reason for the difference in standards, over the years there have been further subdivisions with the introduction of color broadcasting, transmission frequencies, stereo sound and sub-titling. Even politics played a role with the French introduced their standard to protect manufacturing companies and it was later adopted in Eastern Block countries to discourage receiving Western transmissions. A video recorded in one standard may not play back properly in another standard. E-K Media offers two services to convert from one standard to another. The first is called Four-field conversion, which mixes the appropriate fields, delivering excellent results, is suitable for 99% of the applications and is reasonably priced. The second (and much more expensive) is called an Alchemist conversion that uses motion estimation technology to deliver a precise, broadcast quality conversion.
